Why Clean Your Gutters?
Many of us ignore our gutters, and rely on the wind and weather to keep them clear. Unfortunately they can clog up over time, with leaves, twigs, growing grass and even nesting birds. In turn this leads to cracked gutters and deterioration of rubber seals.
Some symptoms of blocked gutters are:
- Discolouration of internal walls from water damage.
- Small leaks in the wall or ceiling.
- Rainwater overflowing the gutter and splashing down the side of the house, instead of the downpipe.
- Lack of water flow from downpipes.
If any of these symptoms show up, it would be wise to act before further damage occurs.
The Results Of Water Damage
The pictures here show serious water damage internally and externally. If left un-mended, the water will freeze up in the winter months and crack the cement in the wall. The cement will start to perish and will cause structural faults and damage.
Why Not DIY?
The task of clearing gutters can be a DIY job for those with a head for heights and a ladder of the right size. This does not remove the fact however, that it is a dirty, smelly, and somewhat dangerous job to do, often with difficult to access areas!
